What is the Landscape of Innovation and Start Up Expos in Pakistan?
PINTECH 2025 was held at Expo Centre Lahore in April 2025, organized by the Punjab Higher Education Commission (PHEC) and the Higher Education Department (PHEC, 2025a). That same month, NUST Islamabad hosted the ASEAN–Pakistan Technology Expo 2025 from 22–24 April 2025, bringing together all of Pakistan's National Centres of Excellence and over 35 tech companies and startups before an international audience (NUST, 2025a). Delegates came from across ASEAN countries.
February 2026 marked another milestone when the National Centre for Physics (NCP) held its first-ever Industrial Expo in Islamabad (UrduPoint News, 2026). NCP showcased technologies ready for commercial use, including AI health management systems, drone-based crop yield tools, cloud seeding technology, cybersecurity products, and breakthroughs in 3D printing and vacuum science (NCP, 2026). The Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry arranged B2B meetings throughout, with its president emphasising that economic growth depends on effective collaboration between research, entrepreneurship, and industry (Business Recorder, 2026).
Also in February 2026, the Pakistan Sundar Industrial Expo took place at Sundar Industrial Estate in Lahore, featuring more than 500 stalls from manufacturers, exporters, and tech providers (24 News HD, 2026). Youth entrepreneurship was at the heart of the event. The expo included B2B meetings, technical sessions, and industry forums. At its closing ceremony, PIEDMC announced plans to take the event international in future editions (The Tribune International, 2026).
What This Trend Tells Us
The 2025–26 expo season shows clear progress. Industry and academia are working together. Innovation is no longer limited to Lahore and Islamabad — it is growing in Sialkot, Narowal, and Hyderabad too. Students are solving local problems with local solutions. Government is visibly involved.
Challenges remain. Funding gaps, regulatory hurdles, and brain drain are real issues. But Pakistan's young innovators are not waiting. They are building, competing, and showing their work.
The future is already on display. You just have to show up.
