Special combination of resources that offers features such as water, marine biodiversity, beaches, visual beauty, rich terrestrial and diverse heritage, seafood, and solid infrastructure forms the foundation of coastal tourism.
Pakistan has some of the most breathtaking tourist destinations in the world, particularly in its northern regions and the Kashmir region. These locations are well-known for tourism, while our southern and coastal areas have yet to be discovered as tourist destinations.
Pakistan has an amazing coastline of approximately 1,050 km, of which 250 km falls in the Sindh province and 800 km in Balochistan. Despite having a wonderful 700 km long coastal belt, Balochistan has not been able to fully benefit from tourism due to a lack of amenities and infrastructure.
Beaches like Gadani, Jiwani, Pasni, Kund Malir, Haft Talar, and Astola Island have enormous tourism potential. Especially, the local community will be supported, jobs will be created, and small businesses will be able to thrive as a result of these beaches serving as potential tourism destinations for both domestic and foreign visitors.
One of the most awesome coastal drives in the world is the Makran Coastal Highway. It travels from Karachi via Balochistan to Gwadar along the Arabian Sea. The 653-kilometer-long road connects the N25 to the Iranian border. The government has paid little attention to developing and attracting these undiscovered gems of Pakistan.
The coastline region has never been given consideration when it comes to general tourism planning and development. Pakistan’s coastline areas, like many other countries, can be used for economic gain. Seven hundred kilometers of beautiful lakes and sand beaches are available in our country, and they can all be used to boost tourism-related earnings. Before the Covid outbreak, India was the country in Southeast Asia that benefited the most from coastline tourism. Maldives is another well-known example of coastal tourism. The economy of the nation is based on the coastal regions for one-third of its revenue. Thus, the aforementioned information emphasizes how significant the sector is to the world economy.
Tourism has the potential to be a significant economic engine and a significant source of foreign exchange gains. It has a great capacity to produce mass employment of many kinds, ranging from the most specialized to the unskilled, and will thus play a big part in the creation of more employment prospects. An increase in tourism activities benefits the host country and the local populace, who gain from the opportunities provided by rising coastal tourism.
